Moon
Director: Duncan Jones Year: 2009 Language: English Country: United Kingdom
In the near future the Earth gets all the energy it requires from fusion reactors powered by helium 3 mined from the Moon. The company responsible for mining the moon's helium maintains a crew of one man in it's moon-base with only a computer for company; that man is Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell).

When Sam has an accident will checking on one of the mining machines, he seemingly awakes back in the moon-base under the supervision of the computer, GERTY. But all is not as it seems, when the Sam who awakes discovers the wrecked rover containing the Sam who had the accident. The pair try to figure out the situation they are in.

Moon is aesthetically stunning, the outside shots feel like they could have been shot on the Moon and the vehicles are well conceived and believable. The interior of the ship is similarly believable and has a kind of 2001 feel to it. Rockwell is excellent in his role(s) which is lucky since his performance is the film. Scenes with two Sams in them feel believable and the dialogue between the two sounds natural without a hint that the same actor is playing two characters.

Overall, a well made, interesting Sci-Fi film which is takes a small confined idea and plays it out well.
