John T. Chance (John Wayne is the sheriff of a small frontier town in the old West. When he puts a man in his jail cell for murder, he finds himself up against the man's friends who are keen to break him out. With only his deputies stumpy and Dude for backup, Chance must hold out until a U.S. Marshall arrive to pick up the man. As the tension builds, he finds himself some new friends in the form of a sassy dame and a young gun-slinger.

Rio Bravo is a Western which focuses very much on plot and character development, the first half is well paced and slowly builds tension while fully fleshing out the various characters. As we move towards the films end, the action builds up, but it is well balanced and still adds to the characters. Wayne is good in his role as the Sheriff and Dean Martin is similarly good as an ex-alcoholic trying to go sober.

Overall, great plot and great characters.
