Doom
Director: Andrzej Bartkowiak Year: 2005 Language: English Country: America
This film based very loosely on the computer game of the same name stars The Rock and Karl Urban as two of a team of marines sent to contain a possible alien outbreak. The outbreak is on a discovered base on Mars which is linked to Earth via a portal, the scientists there have been in a state of lock down after strange monsters threatened their experiments.

As a film, Doom is pretty bad, as a film based on the computer game it is terrible. Fans of the game will recognise very little except for the setting of Mars and some of the shapes of the doors. None of the terrible monsters from the game are in the film, there is no hell angle and not even a whiff of a rocket launcher (although a chainsaw does show up).

Stylistically, the movie plays out like a cheap Aliens clone, with The Rock and Urban doing their best to play the hard ass sergeant and the moody marine respectively. The monsters are pretty much zombies from outer space and the action sequences while loud and flashy aren't all that exciting.

All in all, if you've got 2 hours to spend, fire up the game and revel in the nostalgia, watching this is pointless.
