50 First Dates
Director: Peter Segal Year: 2004 Language: English Country: America
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star in this romantic comedy. Henry Roth (Sandler) is a vet living in Hawaii and working for a sea life show, he spends his evenings having short relationships with women holidaying on the island. One day he meets Lucy (Barrymore) who he soon believes to be the girl of his dreams. When he meets her again the next day, she has no recollection of her and he soon learns that she has lost her short term memory in a car accident, each day she wakes up believing it is the day of her accident, her family try their best to fake that day so as not to upset her.

Henry starts to meet Lucy every day and falls in love with her, but needs to find a solution to allow her to remember him rather than him having to woo her every day. The film follows Henry in his attempts to affect this change.

Despite being an Adam Sandler movie, Sandler dials down his performance for the most part and isn't as annoying as he could be. Barrymore is reasonable in her role, although she has little to work with. The jokes are funny for the most part and there are a couple of gags in there which are really funny.

While Adam Sandler and romantic comedy may sound like a recipe for disaster, 50 First Dates is actually fairly entertaining, the jokes are good and the basic premise is interesting. While not the funniest movie ever, it's still entertaining enough.
