Set 6 years after a space capsule carrying alien life crashed in the Nevada Desert, the area it has crashed in is now inhabited by the extra terrestrial creatures it was carrying and is known as the "Infected Zone". The film follows Andrew, a young photo journalist, and Whitney, the daughter of Andrew's boss, as the pair attempt to travel from Central America back to the U.S.

Not so much a monster movie as a kind of roadtrip movie, with the odd monster. The cinematography of Central America is stunning and the two main actors hold the film together. The basic plot (minus the monsters), the setting and the photography make the film feel like last year's Sin Nombre with a little bit of Cloverfield built in.

As well as the character's physical journey home, they also undertake an emotional journey and the film is well edited to ensure that their characters are constantly evolving as the film progresses.

This is a movie which is a joy to watch, highly original and despite being shot on a fairly low budget, looks amazing. I'd be interested to see what director Gareth Edwards does next.
