Day 4 and with TGS now over, our first day to go out and explore Tokyo properly. First stop was Akihabara; known as "Electric Town", Akihabara is a district where you can buy any kind of electronic goods you can imagine. The streets are full of shops selling electronics and computer games. There's also a fair amount of arcades including Club SEGA, so our morning was mainly spent shopping for and playing computer games.
After a look around Akihabara we hopped on the train and went round to Tokyo Station. Just out side of Tokyo station is the business centre of Tokyo, Maranouchi. Skyscrapers filled with the Head Offices of many of Japans big companies rise above you, from there it was a quick walk to Ginza. Ginza is the up market shopping centre of Tokyo, many large department stores are situated here. Here we also found the "Sony Biru" (Sony Building) a museum of Sony's products, like a shop which sells nothing but Sony stuff, but none of it is for sale. The highlight of the Sony Biru has to be the Sony AIBO robotic pets. Unfortunately it was raining heavily, so wandering around looking at the buildings wasn't as enjoyable as it might have been on a drier day.
At night we headed out looking for a pub which sold reasonably priced beer, we found one which was down some stairs, it was tiny and when we went in all the
regulars turned round and gave us dirty looks. There was a 600 yen cover charge and since we only stayed for 2 drinks it ended up costing up 10 pounds for 2 tiny
little beers.
